5 Kinds of Prostate Supplements, Compared: What Is in Them, and What Is Missing

We read the labels so you do not have to. Full disclosure: we make one of the five. We have ranked them on what is printed on the pouch or the bottle, criterion by criterion, so you can check our work.

A shelf of supplement bottles

Walk into any pharmacy and the men's health shelf looks like a wall of the same bottle. It is not. Behind the plaid shirts and the words "prostate support" there are really five kinds of product, built on five different ideas.

Before ranking them, we wrote down what a good formula should offer a man over 50 who gets up at night, has a slower flow and less energy than he used to.

First, what makes a good formula?

  • Prostate nutrients at the doses the category is built on (saw palmetto 320 mg, beta-sitosterol)
  • Circulation nutrients, because the prostate and bladder depend on small blood vessels and on nitric oxide
  • An oil-based softgel, since several of these nutrients are fat-soluble
  • Every dose printed on the label, no proprietary blend
  • One product, not a stack of bottles
  • A guarantee long enough to judge it: nutrients need about 90 days
1

The circulation + prostate softgel

Our pick, and the one we make: Orykas Full Flow.

Orykas Full Flow

What it does well. It is the only kind that covers both sides: cayenne, beet root, aged garlic and vitamins K2 and D3 for circulation; saw palmetto, beta-sitosterol, pumpkin seed oil, nettle root, lycopene and zinc for the prostate and bladder. Everything is suspended in oil, every dose is printed on the pouch, and the guarantee runs 90 days.

What to know. It is three softgels a day, not one. It is sold only on our site. And like every supplement here, it rewards patience: the fair test is three months.

2

The two-bottle stack

A nitric oxide product plus a prostate formula, bought separately.

What it does well. It covers both sides, and some men build very good stacks this way.

What it leaves out. Convenience and coherence. Two bottles, two brands, often twice the price, and doses that were never designed to go together. Most circulation powders are also built for the gym, not for a 62-year-old's nights.

3

The classic saw palmetto capsule

The bottle most men try first.

What it does well. Saw palmetto is the reference ingredient of the category, it is inexpensive and easy to find.

What it leaves out. Everything about circulation. It is often a dry powder in a hard capsule rather than an oil extract, and many versions are under-dosed. It is the formula men most often describe as "I took it for two months and I am not sure."

4

The circulation-only softgel

Cayenne or beet root, sold on the circulation story.

What it does well. It takes the circulation side seriously, and the good ones use an oil-based softgel.

What it leaves out. The prostate. There is no saw palmetto, no beta-sitosterol, no pumpkin seed oil. It is half of the answer sold as the whole.

5

The 30-ingredient blend

A long list, a single number.

What it does well. The label is impressive and it usually includes a little of everything.

What it leaves out. Transparency. With thirty ingredients in a "proprietary blend," there is no way to know whether any of them reaches a meaningful dose. Usually they cannot: the capsule is not big enough.

The verdict

If you only want to try the cheapest thing first, the classic saw palmetto capsule is a reasonable start. If you have already been there and shrugged, the question is what it left out. Our answer is circulation, and Full Flow is how we put both sides in one softgel.

What exactly is in Full Flow?

Per daily serving of 3 softgels: beet root extract 500 mg, cayenne pepper extract (2.5 mg capsaicinoids), aged garlic extract 300 mg, vitamin K2 100 mcg and D3 25 mcg, saw palmetto extract 320 mg, beta-sitosterol 130 mg, pumpkin seed oil 500 mg, nettle root extract 300 mg, lycopene 10 mg, zinc 15 mg. No proprietary blend.

How long before I can judge it?

Nutrients work gradually and every man responds differently. We suggest 90 days of daily use, which is exactly how long the guarantee runs.

Can I take it with my medication?

Talk to your doctor first if you take blood pressure medication, blood thinners (the formula contains vitamin K2 and garlic) or prostate medication. Full Flow is a dietary supplement. It does not replace a treatment or your regular check-up.

Will the cayenne upset my stomach?

The amount is small and it is suspended in oil inside the softgel, so you do not taste it. Some men feel a light warmth. Taking the softgels with breakfast is the simple way to avoid it.

What if it is not for me?

Take it every day for 90 days. If it is not for you, write to us and we refund your order.
